At present, the male population dominates online casinos, although this fact is slowly changing, as more and more women are attracted to online casinos. There are several reasons why men are so attracted to the gambling world on the internet.

Recent surveys show that men between the ages of 18-35 are the target players at online casinos. 90% of these men stated that when going onto the internet, their favorite pastime is undoubtedly wagering at online casinos. It should come as no surprise that online gambling is so popular among men. Gambling has always been a male dominated pastime, conjuring up images of tough cowboy types sitting around poker tables in the Wild West. Traditional gambling games such as roulette and blackjack also carry a male aura around them.

While much has changed since those bygone years, online casinos have certainly taken this stereotypical image with them and the fact remains that more men than women play at online casinos. Some online casinos realize, however, that more and more women are attracted to online gambling and are honing in on this market. Ladies Only casinos are popping up all over the internet and more and more sites are offering women-only poker tournaments and promotions.

Gambling at online casinos does not come without its problems, however. Compulsive gambling, caused by increased exposure to online casinos by the 18-35 age group, is on the rise and this is an issue that should be addressed as well.
